Is My Ductless HVAC System in Largo, FL, in Trouble?
Ductless HVAC systems typically make some sound during normal operation, but a loud and alarming noise is concerning. Improper installation, damaged components, clogged drains and refrigerant leaks can all mean your ductless HVAC system is in trouble.
Improper Ductless HVAC Installation
If your mini-split wasn’t securely fastened during installation, it may vibrate a lot when running. You may need to have the bolts tightened or the mounting equipment adjusted to ensure correct alignment and quieter operation.
Unbalanced Parts in the Mini-Split
Anything out of balance in a mini-split can potentially lead to loud clanking sounds. Sometimes, fan blades or other parts need adjusting to move more smoothly and quietly. In other cases, these parts may need replacing.
Damaged Internal Components
A broken fan motor, faulty blades and worn-out bearings can make high-pitched screeching noises when they’re having trouble. If you notice this kind of sound, ask an HVAC service technician to inspect these components and replace any damaged parts.
Clogged Drain
The condensation that develops in a mini-split should flow out through drain line. If that line becomes blocked by debris, the water won’t drain out smoothly, and it could make a gurgling sound as it tries to flow from the system. Having your drain line cleaned, either during an annual tuneup or a service appointment, should resolve this problem.
Refrigerant Leaks
When refrigerant leaks out, it can make a hissing noise. Also, a leak can allow air to get in the refrigerant line, where it can make gurgling or bubbling sounds.
If you hear hissing or gurgling, enlist professional help. Refrigerant can pose a safety risk and needs to be handled properly.
